Interesting you should say that, my son just recently mentioned that when he was growing up (in a different state) praying mantises were rare creatures. He remembers how odd the one on A Bug's Life was, and had never seen one in person! I wouldn't say we're crawling with them now, but we do have them in the garden regularly. The biggest difference in location is we're more rural now. Not our house, but just a few blocks away starts agricultural land and forests. Maybe that's why we have them.
