Skywatch Friday - July 17, 2020
I kept an eye on the sky this week for something to share today,
Skywatch Friday.
These both appeared in the same place in the sky (the open area of sky between an incense cedar on the left and a deodar cedar on the right) a few hours apart.
8:04 am moon
10:55 am contrail
Both are beautiful. Not seeing too many contrails these days!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it! I live 2 miles from MFR (a tiny "international" airport), but the planes don't fly my direction. I know they stopped direct to and from Portland (which were nearly hourly) until recently, when they added two daily flights. But, we have the same number of planes overhead I think. They are probably coming from Portland or Seattle, headed south to SF or LA. That's what I imagine!
DeleteHaven't seen a plane in a while!
ReplyDeleteThat's what Spare Parts and Pics thought! I was just at our airport a week ago (MFR) dropping my daughter off. They recently started offering direct to Portland again. For a few months everything went to Seattle first. I don't notice the planes since they don't take off or land over my house. They did test some huge plane built for another country not long ago and that was scary, it was huge!
DeleteReminds me of a comet going up instead of down to earth. :)
ReplyDeleteGood point, I didn't think of that! It does.
DeleteWe've seen hardly any contrails since the pandemic. So this is a rare shot for many of us!
ReplyDeleteIt seems so! If you look at a map of the West Coast and draw a line between Seattle or Portland and San Franciso, the line probably comes pretty much through Medford, OR! Nothing is ever low enough to hear, but if there have been fewer I haven't noticed. Our airport just announced direct flights to Los Angeles. Not that I'm going, but most other flights go to Portland first. Not much of an "International" airport! My daughter teases about it. It's small, but very handy.
DeleteWow zoom zoom and moon moon. LOL
ReplyDeleteI like your profile picture

Ha! That's funny! The profile picture is Mount Mccloughlin.
DeleteFunny how the same patch of sky can change.
ReplyDeleteIt keeps things interesting! It is nice to sit on the deck in the evening and watch the sunset and sky.
DeleteDid you see the fighter jet F-15 go over today? Very loud and exciting!
ReplyDeleteI guess "exciting" is one word for it! "Loud" too, but they always scare me! And the pets. I did run outside to see if I could get a picture, but they are always so far ahead of where I look!
DeleteI've noticed they are loudest after they go by. Sometimes they circle around and come back again!
DeleteEin Blick in den Himmel ist immer lohnenswert!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is!
DeleteNo, I don't speak German, I used Google Translate! Actually, if I used Chrome, like my son is always telling me to do, it would translate automatically.
"A look into the sky is always worthwhile!"
