It was a salt and pepper kind of day recently. As it was a Monday, my son and I drove around to see if there were any garage sale leftover free piles on the neighborhood curbs. There were few, but the weekend had been a bit damp so there hadn't been many sales.
One free pile provided these Silbertone post-WWII atomic age rocket/bomb aluminum salt and pepper shaker set made by Elmore of California (Alhambra) in the '50s and '60s. Those were the years of the atomic design era and Space Age was all the rage! These were very difficult to photograph as they are so shiny and rounded they reflect entire rooms.
Then, just after that we stopped in at a nearby Goodwill. I found a bag of two vintage shaker sets!
The chalet and tree fit together, rather like a "hugger" from.
I like how the salt or pepper comes out of the chimney. I also like that it's drip glaze!
...those MCM salt shakers are an amazing curb find!
ReplyDeleteI like the atomic shakers. I would definitely keep them.
ReplyDeleteDid you mean Silvertone with the atomic age set? That's what Google thinks. It had indigestion with Silbertone. No matter what it is, I think it's so cool.
ReplyDeleteIt is Silbertone. I wondered about that too. There are complete sets still in their original boxes bearing the Silbertone name online. It's suggested Elmore chose to use b rather than v to sidestep trademark conflicts, as Sears had a widely known brand called Silvertone. That was electronics, guitars, radios, etc.
DeleteQuite the haul.
ReplyDeleteYou always find such interesting items. I love the vintage salt and pepper shakers!
