Early Morning Blooms!

A stroll through the garden this morning brought a few surprises!

Red Corn Poppy
What looks like mildew or something nasty is just the shine of the sun off the shiny petals!

I live in Southern Oregon, but I'm a California native (San Francisco East Bay), so have never grown corn poppies before.  For that matter, no poppies other than just letting the golden California poppies do their thing!  If you have a native wildflower that self-seeds like crazy, you don't bother to grow other types of the same thing!

So, this was really exciting!  A bright red touch to the Pollinator Garden.

There are lots more buds too, on several plants growing in holes in the concrete block
wall of the bed.  It seems all the poppy seeds got sown in the holes, but that wasn't on purpose, I just
scattered the mixed wildflower seeds.  Again, these are from Dollar Tree seeds!

Another beauty that opened early today is the "Bonanza" daylily.
I don't know about you, but that pretty much looks like a perfect bloom to me!
The plant is a small one divided this past year and transplanted to the backyard.

I didn't plan the color scheme in this container, but it couldn't be better!
Cosmos and snapdragons from seed.  The snapdragons were Wintersown

Have a nice Thursday, and unless some amazing gardening thing happens (maybe the rain lily with open), I'll be back on Saturday!
