Skywatch Friday - July 4, 2025

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, U.S.A.

Skywatch Friday

The sky on the 30th was an early Fourth of July show.

I was inside, and wondered why the light was suddenly so yellow.  Naturally, I went outside to see.

This doesn't look yellow, try to visualize it yellow, as if my iPhone camera hadn't turned it pink and purple. The clouds were strange, I thought they looked upside down.
This is looking north-west at 8:48 p.m.

To the south was a rainbow.  At times you could see part of a second one on the right.  No rain.  It did sprinkle a tiny bit by the time I took the photo shown last.  This was 8:51p.m.

I came back inside, and within minutes the light was red, so out I ran again!

8:59 p.m.  It progressively got redder as the minutes went by.  By now there was thunder, so I left Mickey in the house.  He runs around barking at the sky when he hears thunder, and is almost impossible to control and get back inside.  Fireworks and firecrackers on the other hand, he confines himself to the house, hiding in the bathroom or under the end table in the living room.  Last year's "boom-booms" scared him so badly he hasn't slept in my room since. The door to outside is from that room, so he connects it to his fears, although he goes in and out it all day.  Nighttime is different I guess.

9:00 p.m. west

9:03 p.m.

Have a nice weekend, and if you're out celebrating the holiday, be safe.  We don't want your next post to be about your firework injuries!
