K - Knautia
Knautia, Macedonica "Red Knight"
It might looks like a pincusion flower (scabiosa), but it's not! It is a relative though. Knautia is a nice bee friendly perennial I have growing in one corner of a vegetable bed. I grew the three plants from seed and they have self-seeded to grow more just outside the bed, as well as some in the Toss Garden where I tossed the seed heads. I read nothing about their blooming their second year, but that's they way mine were.
Lots for Ls up next!
Never heard of this. learned something new!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where I heard of it, but I'm glad I did and it grew from seed for me. Now it self seeds.
DeleteBeautiful flowers, and the color is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteQuilting Patchwork & Appliqué
They really are, and hard to photograph the color.
DeleteThey are really pretty and I love the color too!
ReplyDeleteThey will bloom into winter. They try to bloom all winter, but end up looking pretty poorly. Maybe somewhere just a little warmer.
DeleteAnother flower I've never grown. Bee friendly flowers are getting more and more important in our climate emergency.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like easy to grow and hardy perennials, which many of the pollinator plants are!

ReplyDeleteThe bee looks very busy!
They LOVE knautia!
DeleteIt's rather interesting looking.
ReplyDeleteYes, the flowers are different from any others I have. If one has pincushion flowers (scabosa) I guess they look familiar.
DeleteThat bee looks happy with the Knautia. Love the bright color too. Weekends In Maine
ReplyDeleteIt was! Soon it will be covered with flowers and bees.
DeleteWow! the bee shot is marvellous! and the vivid magenta is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I like to get close-ups of the bees.
DeleteBeautiful flowers! Also, toss garden :D I didn't know that was a thing
ReplyDeleteThe Multicolored Diary
A couple of years ago I just started throwing all my deadheading over into a bare area. Then I piled the black-eyed Susans I'd pulled out, and left them all winter. After I cleaned it up the next spring things grew! I end up throwing extra seeds or seeds I'm sick of planting, over there. So, it's my Toss Garden!
