Thursday Postcards - Travel: a Place You'd Like to Visit (but Haven't)

A Place You'd Like to Visit (but Haven't) is this week's Thursday Postcard Hunt.

My choice is fairly close to home.  I don't like flying anymore, so while I'd love to go to some far- off spots, I won't be, even if given the chance.

I have been to The California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco many times, as a child, and adult, and with my own children.  However, I never visited the remodeled one that opened in 2008.   While I lived in the area for a few years beyond that, I do not drive across bridges like the Bay Bridge.  In the past my late husband would do the bridge driving.

This is a postcard pre-remodel.  There was also a planetarium and African hall which displayed dioramas of taxidermized animals.
(I tried to use "taxidermied," but apparently it's not the commonly used word for animals that have undergone the process of... being taxidermied.)

I couldn't find a postcard of it now, the one I would Like to Visit (but Haven't), so I used Microsoft's AI Copilot to make a postcard image.  Sorry.  Not the same, even if it turned out well.

Would I go if I had the chance?  I'd like to, but that admission fee!  No, I would, but only if I paid for just myself!  I'd just have to find someone to drive me across the Bay Bridge, which is also something I've never seen, it too was replaced.

Next week is A Place You Would Not Like to Visit (For Whatever Reason).  Mine will no doubt surprise some of you!

  1. I understand the flying thing. and even the bridge thing - though I've worked very hard at overcoming that particular fear. I didn't think of specific buildings I'd like to see - my list might have been more exhaustive!

    1. I'm not fearful of flying, it makes me nauseated. Anti-nausea meds make me groggy for 24 hours, a different sort of sick feeling. I am fearful of the bridges! And dams. On family vacations, any time we visited a dam (and for some reason that happened a lot!), we'd walk to the center, and my mother would say, "Look down! Look down, Lisa!" I think that did it for dams. Or the Sunol Water Temple. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunol_Water_Temple
Again, the looking down and the water there rushing every which way!

  2. I would have said "stuffed" :)
It seems a very nice place. Quite expensive, but I guess it's worth visiting.

    1. I never thought of "stuffed," yet that's what I would have called them back then!

    1. Yeah, I don't "approve" of it for art, but used it anyway.

  4. You just have to find someone who wants to go as well and is willing to drive. Or maybe a bus? I don't like driving over bridges, either.

I like your AI postcard. It turned out well.

    1. I was surprised I couldn't find any postcards online. Well, I could, but they wanted a ridiculous cost for shipping. How about just sticking a stamp on it and dropping it in the mail? I assume they have a gift shop with dozens of postcards. Maybe I'll get some one of these days!

  5. You would have to go for a week and purchase the anytime card, bargain:) Shame about the bridge, I miss my fearless driver too.

  6. Huh, fun that you used AI to create the postcard. Well done! I hope you'll find a way/have a chance to visit. :)

  7. I don't like flying and I am always a little nervous when I go over a bridge. However, I recently flew again after a many year's absence because that's the only way I could get to where I wanted to go. I'm only an hour or so from Washington, D. C. and its world class museums and buildings. We used to go several times a year to see the sights, but there are just too many crazy people there these days to visit.
