Skywatch Friday - June 23, 2023

Skywatch Friday, where you can see skies around the world.

This sky photo was taken while I was buying gas.   That's why the upper part is tinted, it's through the windshield.  I was sitting in the car because in Oregon we do not pump our own gas.  That will change soon though, the State Senate passed a bill on Wednesday that would allow it.  It's just waiting for the governor's signature.  50% of pumps will still have to be available for attended pumping.

Passing bills is something my State Senate hasn't done for a while, because many Republican members staged a six week walkout to avoid voting on bills they disagreed with.  You know, those little things about guns and abortion.  The voters passed a ballot measure just last year that disqualifies members from running for election again if they have 10 or more unexcused absences.  We'll see how that works out. They did the same thing in 2019, 2020, and 2021.  In 2021 they actually ran off to Idaho, one threating to shoot any State Police who might try to come get them.  They were avoiding a vote having to do with climate change and carbon emissions.   I believe they should show up and do the job they were elected to do, no matter which "side" they're on.

Anyway, that's the Coast Range towards the west.

We had a few very cold and wet days earlier this week.  This was around 6:30am on the 19th.  So, not a peek of the sky showing, if we are defining "sky" as the blue part up there!

Then, things warmed up again.

This is the sky from the parking lot at the Goodwill Outlet on Thursday.  It got up to 88°.

It was still warm Thursday night at 8:30, but looked like rain again.

Have a nice first weekend of summer!

  2. My one trip to Oregon years ago, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to pump my own gas. Once I figured out the deal I was okay with somebody else doing it.
The GOP has a veto proof majority here so they just pass stupid bill after stupid bill, ignoring real problems and focusing on wedge issues.

  3. Beautiful skies!! I so agree with you about the importance of showing up, and there should be consequences for frequent no-shows.

  4. That first photo - wow, those are some puffy clouds. I appreciate any blue in the sky after our recent brush with wildfire smoke. In New York State, we've had to pump our own gas for many years but there is one somewhat local chain that actually has some full service pumps at most of their locations and also sells American produced gas (Kwik Fill).

  5. Great skies. And such changeable weather. I think we're finally going to warm up. But this is typical for this time of year for us.
