Thursday Postcard Hunt - Tchotchkes, or Touristy Item Details
Tchotchkes, or Touristy Item Details, today for Thursday Postcard Hunt. I'm not so sure about the "Details," however they are "Touristy."
Two embossed souvenirs from wherever you want, just fill in your location of choice. c1910
Whelk - it does have that detailed little seascape.

I shared this last year for Traditional Folk Costumes, but here it is again, doing double duty as a Touristy Item. It wasn't mailable as a postcard from Spain in 1971, so it was kept as a souvenir.
Next week begins a new theme for July. Travel.
...when we vacationed in Maui there was a shop called "The Tourist Trap!"
ReplyDeleteI will guess it was one!
DeleteInteresting cards. I like the one from Spain the best.
ReplyDeleteThe Spanish card is a great souvenir. I've never seen seashell 'souvenir from' cards before. Now I'm wondering whatever happened to my shell collection...
ReplyDeleteI had a shell collection that went missing over the years too!
DeleteI don't know in 1971, but I assure you this is mailable nowadays. I sent a similar one to the UK two months ago!
ReplyDeleteMy parents and I lived near Barcelona in 1971, and my mother wanted to send the postcard to her mother in California, but the post office workers said it couldn't be mailed without an envelope. Maybe the fabric would have caught in the machines then.
DeleteSome great shell cards, I especially like the whelk with its sea view. Well worth showing the Spanish card again, its a beauty.
ReplyDeleteI like the whelk too. While I like messages on postcards, I like these unused ones since the "from" is blank.
DeleteI like the Spanish postcard, but it would be better without the toreador. (Do they still kill bulls there?)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, yes. Even in places where they aren't killed at the end of the "fight," they are killed for meat. I will guess they are too injured for the owners to care about them anymore. Poor animals.
