Flowers and More in May - May 6, 2025
Lots of flowers!
First the bearded iris. Quite a few were given to me by a friend when she divided hers. Iris (and daylilies) bloom best when divided every few years. It's a pain.
Autumn Tryst
Unknown name I got in 2013 free off Craigslist. I like this one a lot, it's different.
Another unknown, again off Craigslist in 2012. I know these were originally removed from a city park. There used to be several other colors, but now just two different purples that smell wonderful.
Unknown from the friend.
Daughter of Stars
I'll Be Back is one of my favorites.
I'll Be Back closeups. The color is much darker, these were in the sun.
Wabash
Lots of Lovely Lavender (and blues)
Blue-eyed Grass and Persian Catmint
Onion Chives
Hardy Geranium Rozanne
Juniper Thyme
Russell Lupine with Borage in the background.
Cellar Spider - these are not "daddy long-legs," which are related to spiders but not spiders. Daddy long-legs, or harvestmen do not produce silk, have two eyes (spiders have six or eight), and have no venom. Cellar spiders are harmless. I find them in ceiling corners and relocate them outside, where they are anything but harmless to pesky insects! This one is quite small.
We need all the Convergent ladybugs we can get!
Seven-Spot Ladybug
The Dollar Tree has plastic watering globes in three shapes and colors! I have glass ones and didn't need these, but it's nice to see them offered. I like the mushrooms.
One of my faux glass watering globes (it's the top broken off a solar light) looked oddly green.
The toy is made from firehose. They are pretty much indestructible. Even my Goldendoodle, Edward, who was a super-chewer couldn't puncture his.
Hope you have a nice week. Tomorrow is Tuesday Treasures, with treasures from the Goodwill Bins!
...The only iris that I have Caesar's Brother Siberian iris.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating name! I can't find out why, only that Julius and Augustus didn't have biological brothers. I also learned something new, that Caesar came to be any of the Roman rulers, but it originally was a family name. I wonder why I didn't learn that studying Ancient Rome? I hope you like the Siberian iris, I am not a fan!
DeleteAt my previous house, we had many different varieties of iris. I only have a couple now, but they are in bloom. I'm happy about that because last year none of them bloomed.
ReplyDeleteThe ones in my backyard didn't bloom last year either. One of them was the I'll Be Back, which is nice this year.
DeleteBeautiful flowers! Our black goldendoodle, Cooper, just turned 8 and finally doesn't destroy anything. When he was younger - oh, boy!
ReplyDeleteWait! I knew I recognized your name! You blogged about your doodles one year! I had Edward my golden goldendoodle then!
DeleteThose are lovely. I suppose they are easy to get if they need to be divided every couple years. Lots of them around, then.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've gotten quite a few iris off curbs.
