Garage Sale Season is in full swing!  Saturday is the Spring City-Wide Yard Sale in a nearby city.  This past Friday I stopped at one on a street nearby.  It was the sort of yard sale one can only dream of!  If that "one" is me.  Boxes of unpacked treasures.  I rummaged, leaving my items on a table.  After I'd formed a pile I asked how much.  Just $10!  The only things not pictured are a Pyrex glass measuring cup and a package of Christmas gift bags.

Want to read about the details of some of the most interesting?  Which is nearly all of it!  It's a very international group.

Africa
Hausa, Nigeria - 12" hand-woven grass shallow basket

Italy
A pair of brass frames, 10" high.

Germany
4" lusterware bud vase stamped "Bavaria." c1920s-1930s

France
Likely an Aubusson tapestry, professionally framed.  Some characteristics of Aubusson tapestries are the flat weave, which under a magnifying glass show subtle variations, and their pastel colors.  There are others from France of this scene online.

Framed to about 12" x 12".  The framers is in the California city I used to live in, and I've actually had framing done there!

In the main photo you can see a terra-cotta birdhouse, a signed clay pot, and three glass floats (faux floats, for decor).  They aren't the vintage floats my family would find washed up on the beaches near San Francisco.  Those came from Japanese fishing boats.  I was amazed the traveled so far.  I still am!  The oval frame is vintage, possibly antique, wooden, and needs a good coating of gold paint to bring it back to life.

I expect next week's Tuesday Treasures post will be about the City-Wide Sale!

  1. I used to love hitting the garage sales and second hand shops. But now in my late 70s, it's time to minimize my things so someone else doesn't have to do it. Sigh....

    1. I like old photos, and my daughter gets cranky since she says no one will know if they are relatives or not!
