Park Update - Mid-June 2025
Mickey and I took a walk Saturday to check out the progress on the park. It's summer, or will be in a few days, and it still hasn't opened. I'd guess the neighborhood kids are eager to try out the splash pad. The restrooms won't be installed until September. That's poor planning! Hopefully they'll leave the portable the workers have been using.
The grass is from seed. The orange "fence" has been knocked over and at least one bicycle has made a track through the new grass. It's not old enough for traffic yet. The rest of the park isn't accessible, this is near the school.
That's the dog run with bench and shade. I'm interested to see what a dog water fountain looks like.
Sure a lot of weeds!
New trees were planted.
The Oregon grape planted near the parking lot bloomed and is now covered in the "grapes."
Chicory. Not just a weed, some grow it for a coffee substitute.
"Stinking" chamomile, pig-sty daisy, dog-daisy, mayweed... it has a lot of names! It's Anthemis cotula. I've seen wild chamomile (pineapple weed) in the area, but not this sort. I will be sure to smell it next time, see if it lives up to its name!
Tomorrow's Tuesday Treasures is a RPPC (Real Photo Post Card) extravaganza!
Once the park is finished, it will be a great asset to the neighborhood. Even if chicory is considered a weed, I love its bright purple flowers.
ReplyDeleteYes, chicory has beautiful flowers. Not so much the plant though. I liked the old park on walks with Mickey since no one was ever there! I guess I should hope people come to the new, it cost enough!
DeleteThey got rid of the basketball court? Yikes. I thought people still did pickup games in places. There's a park I sometimes walk in that has a water fountain for dogs. It's cute. I imagine yours will be as well.
ReplyDeleteThere may be a new basketball court, the one there was not usable. They did take out the tennis court completely, maybe that's a game not as popular now. Pickleball seems to be the thing!
DeleteThe flowers are GORGEOUS! And I love that they're including a nice place for dogs to play!
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a big dog park at the other end of town. I'm not sure Mickey will be loose in it, maybe with a long tether so I can reel him back in!
DeleteAlways good to see a park!
ReplyDeleteIt's a big improvement over the conditions it was in before.
DeleteHow exciting: a new park. The grape vine is astonishing! that much grapes on a little vine....
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Oregon grape isn't a grape. It's a barberry. Spiny leaves. The "grapes" are edible, but they need a lot of sugar added. Parts are said to be medicinal.
