Motley Monday - March 31, 2025
Very motley today.
I don't know if March went quickly or not. It seems fast, yet some events in January feel like they occurred so, so long ago.
Last week there was a run of upper 70° temperatures, and one day 81°. Yesterday? Cold. Windy. Hail.
Mickey's the only one who had fun in the wind. Yeah, I'm still moving cedar rounds to the front.
Speaking of trees... you may remember in December this little tree was uprooted by wind?
My son got a chance to start cutting it down, and actually made great progress considering he was using one of those hand limb saws! The part on the left can probably be pushed over the other way (it's the part that uprooted) along the fence behind a larger tree until he can cut it too. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
This is the tree than had the strange chain on it. I can only guess it had previous problems falling over.
Moving some of the decor on the fence I found a spider egg sac. I removed it, and this is what the back looked like. I usually leave them, and only kill black widows.
I kind of just brushed it off without thinking. The eggs will probably still hatch.
Back a few days ago when the weather was nice, Mickey and I took a walk. Not to the park. They're still working on it. Or, the remodel isn't finished yet. No one has worked on it in weeks. I understood when there was snow. Then it was really muddy. But, it was nice too, and no workers at all. So, no park, but the school playground was open.
These are weeds, Common Crane's Bill. Just weeds, but aren't they pretty?
They planted a lot of Oregon Grape, Oregon's State Flower. I'm not a fan of the plant. It's like holly, the leaves are sharp! The honey bees were all over it.
There were a lot of adorable chalk drawings, like this kitty cat!
Back to my backyard for the hardy germanium Breeders Mix starting to bloom.
Raindrops on strawberry leaves.
Pretty Leftovers
Colorful Lunch
Why these last two? I was just bored! I think the phone took pretty good photos without much light in the house.
Tomorrow is April. That means the Blogging From A to Z Challenge begins! Every day in April, with Sundays off to make 26 days, I'll be posting A to Z: Dog Breeds on Stamps. Tomorrow is also Tuesday Treasures, which will be the postcards I have been getting at St. Vincent de Paul for the past week. Another thing in April is National Poetry Writing Month (as well as Global Poetry Writing Month). I am going to try to keep up with the prompts on https://www.napowrimo.net/ on my other blog, The Versesmith. My A to Z is all ready to go, it's an easy to post theme! Come back and see!
...wind is not a friend of trees!
ReplyDeleteIt was so windy yesterday I was concerned limbs would come off the big trees!
DeleteUgh, wind is the worst! Mickey doesn't seem to mind. Your son did a great job with only a hand saw. The chain looks imbedded into the tree.
ReplyDeleteThe chain must have been put on the tree many years ago. It was already deeply cut in when I moved here in 2011.
DeleteSorry about the trees. That was a mess to clean up.
