Limitless Galaxies
A Very Wordy Wednesday! I got this honeybee printed on a vintage dictionary page in the Goodwill Bins (.17) a few months ago. It's by Jen Galaxy, and came sealed with a cardboard backing and the artist's business card. The artist was kind enough to respond to my email to let me know she only did a short run of these dictionary page prints. They were "tricky to do" and only a limited number of themes/words worked together. When Mindlovemisery's Menagerie had the prompt of Dictionary I knew I wanted to use the print as a base for a poem! Here it is. (Yes, the use of "galaxies" in the poem was intentional!) It's a honeybee, so Garden Poetry, not off topic!

That is an interesting piece of art. How nice you were able to get in touch with the artist.
ReplyDeleteThey usually respond back, happy to talk about their pieces! The exception is one I may try again with. I have two of her numbered prints, and one is L.A. Burning, which is certainly a noticeable name right now. When was there a big L.A. fire in the recent past? The woman worked at Occidental College, retired now. Maybe that's why I can't get a response, it might be a work email. (Yes, it is...) https://lisasgardenadventureinoregon.blogspot.com/2021/12/tuesday-treasures-december-21-2021.html
DeleteFun! And an interesting technique for the bee image. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you came by to see it!
DeleteI've never seen anything like this!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't either. I have seen more now online of course. I'm glad I rescued it. I try not to think, too much, about all the original art (and this sort of print counts, it's a monoprint, if others were made they would be slightly different, printed one by one) going out the doors with the rest of the bin stuff as salvage.
DeleteThat is an interesting piece of art. I'm thinking of how many old dictionaries are sitting around. But I can see why it would tricky.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun communicating with artists when they respond. I've done that mainly with sculptures that I have found around town.
It drives me nuts though! For the words to read correctly, it's the way I posted it. However, the bee is sideways! Turn the bee correct, landscape, the words are sideways!
