Motley Monday - January 6, 2025

First, an apology to those who have commented on posts and I haven't responded, and those who's posts on their blogs I've neglected to comment on.  I've been sick for a couple of weeks, and finally after two urgent care visits I've gotten some antibiotics and several other prescriptions that are helping considerably.  Still, "considerably" is slow.   A lot of my posts are scheduled ahead of time, so it looks like I'm up and active when really I'm not!  I'm up now, and if not active, at least feeling better.  Nights are worse.  Why people say "night air is no different from day air" when it obviously is!  I can't explain why, but by mid-afternoon my symptoms know the time.

So, some motley stuff to start out the week.

It's been raining.  Lots.  I haven't gone out back for quite a while, so when I did I was surprised to see this little tree had fallen over.  Good. It's been on my list for my son to cut down for years!  Now we won't have to go into the neighbor's yard.

It has a heavy chain dangling from the trunk, bolted on.  No idea why, it was like that when I moved in.  Probably contributed to its demise, cutting into it like that.

The puddles in the far back have been worse, but this is the worst in the past few years. The blocks in other weather are upright in other places, in flood-time I use them as stepping stones.  Almost submerged.  And the original owners built the garden shed out of particle board!  Every winter I think will be its last when it sits a foot in the water.  I may be right this time.

Some puddles are pretty.

The little Frost peach I grew from a pit gives hope for spring!

Not so the Pluot.  At least for its own spring.

I always find fungus a nice subject for photos!

The Bird's nest fungus that were closed last time I shared.

Part of the fence collapsed.  Not the fence used for anything important (like keeping a dog in the yard).

A new generation of borage is doing nicely, managing in spite of the pest nibbles.

I think it looks like the wisteria pod knocked the glass ball aside and planted itself in the hole! I won't be having that.

Changing directions...

A relative was out of town over the Christmas school break.  I hoped there'd be squished penny machines so sent along pennies and quarters (although I've seen videos online where machines are now by debit or credit card, no fun).  It never occurred to me they may cost more than the two quarters they had always been.  No worries, there were machines and they were still two quarters, and with your own coins!

Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort

I've been collecting squished pennies for... I have no idea.  A long, long time!  Museums, amusement parks, county fairs, zoos... even the Goodwill Bins!

My passport is full, I have overflow in zippered baggies.  There's something I can do if I have some free time after organizing my new postcards!  Maybe a Tuesday Treasures could feature squished pennies.  I just found out (I mean just, as in right before typing out "I just...") there is a club for collectors!  The Elongated Collectors.  Oh, so they aren't called "squished."

There's a thrift store in Georgia that knows how to put prices on collectible books!  Stickers belong on very few collectibles of any kind.  They pull paint of paintings, finish off wooden items, layer of paper off book covers...  If the thrift store has too many to do this, and too few volunteers, I think they should just price them by type.  Hardcover, softcover, children's, etc. If they think "old" is worth more they can price them higher, perhaps pre-1950 are $1 more or something.

That's Monday, January 6, 2025.  I read it was a much calmer day than January 6, 2021.  It was said to be an "orderly process."

I haven't done this much in a while, so I'm off to lay down.  If that doesn't make me cough... 😷

(What I have isn't related to anything with vaccines, but still, I encourage you to get vaccinated.  The doctor said there is a lot of pneumonia around here, so there might be there too, wherever your "there" is.  My county is a low vaccine percentage rate already, as the doctor also said, "People don't like doing things.")

    1. Hope you're doing well now, and stay that way! Yes, it's been very rainy. Southern Oregon isn't the rainy part of the state either.

    1. Thanks. No, I won't work too hard, it's such a mess out there I avoid looking at it. I never got to cutting back the iris in August for some reason!

  3. I'm sorry you've been sick. I write all my posts in advance, so I know what you mean about having posts go live when you're not doing much of anything. Those pennies are so fun. I bet you have a huge collection.

    1. I don't think I have that many pennies. I don't know any comparisons though! Not so many new ones unless relatives send them to me. I don't have any of the sort of places around here. Not that I miss the Bay Area, but it did have it's entertainment!
