Thursday Postcard Hunt - Red

Red is the color of the week for Thursday Postcard Hunt

Three with red clothing.

"The Old Miner.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police with "their world famous dogs," on a 1960s postcard.

"Deer Hunters attend Sunday Mass in outdoor chapel, one of several in northern Wisconsin."  1960s

The, this pair of carved wood alebrijes, red devils, from Oaxaco, Mexico, sharing some bottles of cold Dos Equis.*

Next week, the first in February, will bring Maps.

*I wrote a poem for the Oaxaca postcard before deciding not to participate in the exchange.  Here is is...

DEMONS

Two demons

shooting the breeze,

their work-week done.

Sipping their lager

carefree as you please,

it’s their time for fun.

  1. I quite like the old miner photo - and I'd wear that outfit haha!

    1. I'm sure it would be very suitable for gardening! I've seen recent ads in magazines for "fancy" overalls for women gardeners. Expensive. Probably not as durable as the denim.

  2. I like all of them! But I wonder if the third picture had a great success among postcard senders...

Oh, and I0d wear that outfit too! :)

    1. That third struck me as so odd. How many Sunday Mass chapels were there in the woods for the hunters? And, how many Catholic hunters were out there to need them? I never really thought about hunters needing to stop hunting to go to mass. I'm glad most were wearing red though. I had childhood friends whose grandmother lived with them since their father had shot their grandfather while hunting. I can't imagine living with my husband's killer, even if an accidental shooting.

    1. I was surprised by how many cards I had with red clothing! I guess the demons could count, I'm not sure their red is skin or clothing though!

    1. Except for the Canadian one, they were from St. Vincent de Paul (not at the same time) for 5¢ each! The Canadian was thrown in with a 50 dog postage stamp lot on eBay for under $1.50.

  5. Nice how the reds haven't faded after all this time.

    1. It's amazing how even the antique ones are still colorful.

  6. I find the randomness of some vintage cards interesting, and the hunters at mass brings up so many questions. I do love the serge uniforms of the mounties.
