Cross: One Word Sunday

 Cross

This is the Mt. Davidson Cross, which overlooks San Francisco, California.  My parents met in San Francisco when they were both working at the City of Paris.  On dates they would drive up to the cross so often my mother referred to it as "Our Cross."  It wasn't a religious pilgrimage; it was a pretty view and a then rather secluded spot to, as my mother put it, "neck."  This was in 1938 or 1939.  One unusual thing about this photo is the two men in suits climbing the hill on the right.  Where were they coming from?  What were they doing there?  My imagination is running wild with ideas! 🤣 Bank robbers?  Clandestine lovers?  Or just two men in need of a restroom with none in sight?  I don't think my mother even noticed them, as she never mentioned it to me.

  1. That's an impressive cross. And it's great to have some of your mother's old photos.

    1. One of my brothers had this one, and sent it to me. I'm not sure why. I'm glad though!

  2. Great stories--both the memories from your parents and the mystery of the guys climbing the hill. It's interesting to speculate...

    1. All the years the photo was around and no one noticed! Digitally it's bigger and I could see them.

    1. It is fun! My mother made sure to add (this was in a letter she wrote about her life with my father for her children to read after she died) that they did "neck" but nothing else!
