Ragtag Daily Prompt (RDP) - Photograph
The Ragtag Daily Prompt for Sunday is Photograph. That's a prompt for me! I LOVE photographs! I collect photographs. Mostly vintage and antique, but I don't turn down any new I find in thrift stores, garage sales, and especially in the Goodwill Bins, as that's their last chance to say alive, as it were. I have some great newer ones, but I try to follow the copyright laws (I doubt anyone will call me on it sharing on the blog, but still...). If they are RPPC (real photo post card) the stamp box may have the printer's mark, which makes them dateable.
This is a pile found in a box in the Goodwill Bins. 1940s-1950s, not public domain.
Some of my favorites have been shared here before, but they are worth repeating. Dates were established by either postcard stamp box or notes on reverse of photo.
1914-1920s
1914
These are three I took today. Twenty-six others were deleted.
Copyrights are retained by the photographer, even if I own the photo. That does for photo postcards too. Anything pre-1914 entered the public domain Jan. 1. 2025. After that, up to 1977 is 95 years after publication. So, a photo taken in 1925 + 95 years, has been public domain since 2021. 1978 on? It's more confusing. It has to do with the date of the photographer's death +70 years, or longer, depending...
When my material grandmother died she had a lot of photo albums of unknown people. My mother threw them out! If she didn't know who they were, she didn't want them. Fortunately, my brother and sister-in-law were there that day and rescued them. I have family photos of strangers! It's sad when someone donates a frame to a thrift store still holding a child's school portrait. I even have a few photos of unknown pets!
Photograph was a great prompt! I got to squeeze in an extra post about collecting and thrifting! It's raining, and I have been sick (again) so no gardening going on. I did order seeds though.
...I like your puddle art.
ReplyDeleteI remember getting all sorts of photos back from developing with my thumb in the way or out of focus. Very sad at the time, but of course now I don't remember what I was trying to photograph.
