Admit it, Dandelions are Beautiful Flowers!
What's not to love about dandelions?
Sunny yellow. One of spring's first flowers. Easy to grow. Edible leaves, roots, and flowers. Great treats for pets too!

And when they go to seed, make a wish …
ReplyDeleteOf course! Spread the seeds so there are more sunny yellow flowers! I didn't know the seed heads were called "clocks," and then understood The Rolling Stones song Dandelion mentioning time!
Delete...it's all about location, location, location!
ReplyDeleteTrue! Mine are fine where they grow. I do dig them out of the herb garden.
DeleteI never thought of them as edible (but I have heard of dandelion wine, so I'm not completely surprised).
ReplyDeleteSome grocery stores, not just fancy organic type ones, sell dandelion greens. I have a dog, so don't eat my dandelions! When we had Guinea pigs we gave the leaves to them.
DeleteI've eaten dandelion greens but I must admit what I had was too bitter for my taste. (Apparently I have a gene that makes me sensitive to bitter taste in food, as I can't stand broccoli rabe or even lettuce that's stood a little too long, neither of which bother many people I know) But I loved, as a child, making wishes on the seeds and blowing them off their stalks.
ReplyDeleteI'm OK with them, too. I've eaten the leaves as part of my salad, and the flowers are OK. The neighbors don't like them, so we use corn gluten meal (non-poisonous, non-toxic) on our lawn, but it's not a big deal to me if a few survive.
