Sunday Stamps - March 16, 2025
Sunday Stamps takes us to Cold Vacation Locations this week.
Last week I shared a beach stamp for Warm Vacation Locations, where some people like to lounge in the sun. This week I share beaches for Cold Vacation Locations. What's going on? Well, when my valley is 100°+ in summer it's nice to cool off at the beach. The beaches in Oregon (N. California, and Washington State) are not sunny hot beaches for swimmers. They are more often that not, cool, cold water, foggy weather beaches where you can forget about summer heat for a while.
I've shared this before.
USA 2009, Oregon Statehood 150 years
Did you know that Canada is the coldest country in the world? I was surprised to find that out, I expected one of the other top ten cold countries to be first. Like Norway or Russia. Nope, it's Canada. I forgot it includes the Arctic. I've only been to Canada on summer vacations, and I wouldn't want to go in winter.
Canada 1950 - trappers drying hides in the cold winter snow. Or summer snow, depending on where they are in Canada I suppose!
The theme next week is Lighthouses.
The rocky beaches of Oregon always look lovely, didn't know about the summer fog, intriguing.
ReplyDeleteIt's like Northern California that way. There's a saying, "If you want to see San Francisco in the summer, go in the fall." Fall is warmer and drier than summer.
Delete...Oregon is indeed a beautiful state.
ReplyDeleteIt is. I like it! There are very few things I miss in CA.
DeleteThe Oregon stamp is simply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI would love that image to be a painting on my wall!
DeleteI liked both the stamps. The only time I was in Oregon was in February of 1979 for the total solar eclipse. We were staying in Portland and got fogged or clouded out - we drove and drove until there was a break in the clouds and we were able to see the eclipse. So I can't speak to beaches but I probably did experience the fog.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to see the eclipse! It's always a toss up whether I'll see them. I got to see the one in October 2023.
DeleteI am not a summer beach lover, so this would suit me just fine!
ReplyDeleteAnd, btw, not all of Canada is cold in winter - I wouldn't go to Montreal or Winnipeg but Victoria would be fine.
I guess that Arctic part puts it as the coldest in the world! I have been to Victoria in summer, very nice.
DeleteInteresting fact about Canada! The Oregon stamp is beautiful and perfectly captures that cool, misty atmosphere. I'm looking forward to next week's lighthouse theme.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful stamp.
DeleteYeah, I suppose a beach could be cold in the winter. Or in the north. I wouldn't have guessed Canada as the coldest country, but it does make sense.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite a surprise to me too! I expected the others on the list, Finland, Iceland, Russia, etc. but not for Canada to lead it off as #1.
DeleteLove the detail on that second stamp!!
