Who did I find for this week's Thursday Postcard Hunt? I found three Famous Women.
Certainly no one would dispute Marilyn Monroe is a Famous Woman!
Martha Washington was our first First Lady. This image is from a photo taken of the painting by Gilbert Stuart. The postcard dates from the 1930s-1940s. In 2021 I posted about Martha Washington, with an image of the painting no less! It's worth a read, if I do say so myself; she was a fascinating woman with quite a quirky sense of fashion!

There are few people who wouldn't recognize Barbie Roberts! Here she is on a 1997 postcard trying to use her celebrity status to get away with extra luggage. The pilot, Ken, and flight attendant (stewardess at the time the dolls were made), actually a Barbie, are from the 1960s American Airline Barbie set. The bag at the attendant's feet has the American Airline name and logo on the other side.

ReplyDeleteCertainly I won't dispute they are famous (because of different merits). But I didn't know the name of Barbie is "Roberts"!
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't know Barbie had a last name. Or a middle name. Barbie Millicent Roberts. But my favorite photo was that of Marilyn Monroe. What a beauty, and what a tragic life.
