Thursday Postcard Hunt - Women Reading and/or Doing Handiwork
Women Reading?
Women doing Handiwork?
First we have Josephine and Mercie, both reading, from a painting by Edmund Tarbell, postmarked 1917.
Betsy Ross And The First American Flag - June 1776
One of the 24 postcards in a bicentennial album, published in 1976 by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Next week is our last Women themed postcard hunt. We'll be hunting for Famous Women. Hmm... well, Betsy Ross is famous, but I can't use her again! I went to elementary school with a girl named Betsy Ross. I wonder if as a teen or adult she chose to use Elizabeth or Liz?
I love the first one. The open glass door, perfectly aligned with the window... I feel like she will be reaching up for more reading material.
ReplyDeletePerhaps!
DeleteIf the family was calling her Betsy, she's probably still Betsy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but growing up my next door neighbor and best friend was named Betsy. Later she started going by Liz.
DeleteIn the first one, the girl seems to be writing a letter instead of reading. Which makes the postcard still more interesting!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, she is writing. I looked up the original painting, and it's clearer what's happening in color.
Deleteawesome cards!!! especially the first one1
