 Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen photos (actually 12 photos and 1 video) from "Mickey's Park" and Mickey.

The park where I walk Mickey is being renovated, at last.  Big changes coming, they say by winter, perhaps even autumn.  So, no more walks in the park for quite a while.

Most of these are some last park walks photos before the fences went up.

Gopher hole, or gopher dirt pile with the hole underneath.

Paw prints.

Wild Chicory.  It's no different from chicory you grow, it's just growing wild as a weed.

The dead grass in preparation for tearing it all up.

It looks like they'll be using a lot of wood chips, as there are piles and piles of them, with clear directions on where to dump more.  They could come dump some at my house!

Chip piles and the photographer's (me) shadow.  Should have saved that one for Shadow Shot Sunday.

Trees were marked for removal.  More wood chips!  Most of the marked trees are diseased.  They are leaving the ugly honey locusts.

The first day after the fence went up we were unable to access the park, but the playground of the school was still open.  Once school starts again that won't be available except evenings and weekends.

There's not much to do there for a dog, most of the grassy area is star thistle-full.  Not a great area for kids to play.

We saw some sights we hadn't seen before on the side of the school property.

A flock of wild turkeys!  I've seen individual turkeys in the neighborhood, but this was a large flock that looked like they'd just woken up for the day, marching out of the shrubbery and trees.

I got a giggle at the little one running to catch up!  I can't call them "turkeys" to Mickey, same with the clucking hens across the street can't be "chickens."  He knows the words "chicken" and "turkey" as food items!  I used to buy eggs from the girl across the street, but last time time the eggs tasted bad, like old.

Mickey was looking out the front window as I came down the hall.  This is a reflection in the glass of one of the (many) paintings on the hallway wall.  The sofa is pulled back a few feet from the window, and there is foam board to block a lot of the view, as Mickey is a reactive dog.  He still looks out, he just can't bash the glass!  He's looking at the neighbor's boat, which has been sitting there for far too long.

This is part of the "talking" button thingy my daughter got us (me and Mickey) for Mother's Day.  He decided he wanted to take it "outside," one of the button words.  He stood there for a good five minutes just like that.  A kind of showdown with me I guess, as I didn't let him take it out!

There you have it.  Thirteen.  Click on the link at the top to join in!  Thirteen anythings.

We wouldn't be going to the park even it we could.  Our air quality is in the red, unhealthy for everyone.

  1. Hard to lose use of your park, but it sounds like the renovations will be nice.

  2. Oh no, bad air again. The chicory picture came out nice, though. It's a common weed in my part of New York State. Your area has been through so much the last five or so years that you deserve a renovated park. As for the shadow picture, why not go ahead and reuse it?

    1. I don't know whether to hope more people come (it was mostly just Mickey and me before), or not. I liked it empty, but there will be so much to when it's finished. Bathrooms and picnic tables alone should be a big draw. Who wants to go to a park without bathrooms? Especially with kids to play on equipment!

  3. The chicory is stunning. The hydrant so retro.

    1. Chicory has such beautiful flowers, for quite an ugly plant!

  4. Fire smoke, I imagine, in the air? Things are tough all over. Floods, fires, hurricanes, tornados.

    1. Yes, fires. I live in a valley, so it fills up with smoke. The fires don't even have to be close by.

  5. A nearby park went under renovations a year or so ago. It only recently reopened. I'm sure your park will be amazing once they're done with it. I bet some of what they do will have been long overdue.

  6. This is a great TT, and your dog is your MVP this week.
