I couldn't resist this studio pottery* vase at Goodwill recently.
My favorite color, plus such lovely crackle glaze. Purposefully done crazing isn't damage.
The potter signed the bottom, "Gilliland," but it's not by Cindy Gilliland, a potter from Nevada. I didn't think it was, based on her style, but it might have been an early work, or an experimental form. She has an online presence, so I contacted here and verified it wasn't her piece.
*Studio pottery is produced by individual artists, professional or amateur, who personally preform each step in the process in their own studio (or facilities that offer the materials and equipment). Each piece will be one of a kind.
Art pottery is created in larger workshops, where an artist/designer oversees skilled workers. Art pottery may be produced commercially in larger runs, not one of a kind. An example of art pottery is this 1960s - 1970s West German "Fat Lava" vase, made by Scheurich Keramik, a company still in business.
Nice pieces.
