Southern Hemisphere
Argentina 1951
Australia 1949 showing Hermes and the globe, including part of the Southern Hemisphere.
Australia and Oceania 1955 for the World Y.M.C.A. 100 year centennial. Shows all the hemispheres!
South Africa c1959, Antarctic Exploration, showing South Africa in red, and a white Antarctica.
South Africa and Antarctica are both in the Southern Hemisphere.
And that leaves next week for the Western Hemisphere.
You've got some interesting looking maps on this selection.
ReplyDeleteI like the one with Hermes. I wondered about the caduceus he holds, since I always thought that was a symbol of medicine. It's actually his traditional staff, and other messengers of the gods held the same. It's mostly in the US it's a medicine symbol. Stamps teach me something new every time I look into them!
DeleteI love all your stamps as I love maps. I have learned so much from stamps and postcards too.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds from the southern hemisphere.
ReplyDeleteThe very South here! I love especially the illustration on the Sanae stamp.
ReplyDeleteSome nice global stamps, the South African one is very striking with the icy mountains.
