Great postcards!!! I like the first postcard the best. I think it's the smoke that gives movement to the image.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does. I always liked watching tugboats. Probably still would, but I don't live near a port!
DeleteNice postcards especially San Francisco Harbor and I love the Russian card with awkward looking building.
ReplyDeleteMy memories of Fisherman's Wharf didn't begin until the '60s, but it still was a working fishing wharf then too, so looked about the same. Not so now. "Progress." The thrift store had a lot of Russian postcards, all from Rostov-on-Don. I guess from a '80s vacation? I bought them all!
DeleteI do love things with a water view.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I'd love to live on the coast. Not your southern coast, but the foggy N. CA and S. Oregon coast!
DeleteThe first Hamburg card with all those masts is quite eyecatching. The one time I was in SF was in the 80s, so I also missed the fishing boats.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the sealions where there!
Delete...wonderful looks back.
ReplyDeleteI love old postcards and photos.
DeleteLove the black and white cards. The first card (Millom) is just across the Duddon Estuary from me although as there is no bridge a road or rail journey is necessary. They used to ship iron ore and slate out of the harbour in its 19th century heyday with 100s of vessels. It eventually all finished in the 1940s and the pier became derelict. The harbour is still there. Millom have a local museum by the railway station I can feel a visit coming on after seeing your card.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! Thank you for sharing the history.
DeleteWe coincided in one city (Hamburg), but featured very different views!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I love your vintage postcards. I always like visiting ports, they are fascinating places.
They are.
