A few items of note...
The Dollar Tree has their spring gardening supplies and seeds! While they are no longer 4/$1.00, 4/$1.25 is still an amazing price. Plus, they ring up at 31¢ each, saving you a full penny! I think these Bachelor Buttons are a new variety, or they photo's new. They look fancier.
Speaking of seeds, these seed packets were a stocking stuffer gift. Now I can move my saved seeds from jam jars and empty pill bottles!
The garlic I dried has been put to use. This particular head of garlic (a clove is just each single piece) went into potato soup. It's a perfect cold weather soup. Easy too. Not really much of a recipe, not measuring wise anyway. The ingredients are below.
Use a big pan! Sauté some chopped onions and garlic in a bit of oil until lightly browned. You don't have to chop it up much since it will all be put in a blender later.
Peel potatoes, roughly cut up and add to pan. How many? How much soup do you want? I like leftovers. Ten regular sized, not the huge bakers.
Pour in chicken broth and water (2/1) to cover potatoes. You can use vegetable broth, but I think it tastes like nothing. Simmer covered until potatoes are tender. Cool some.
Blend some at a time until smooth. Pour back in pan. Add a few cups of milk and shredded cheddar cheese (I use close to a full new bag, the smaller bag). Heat on low until cheese melts, stirring often since it tends to stick.
A reflection in the puddle (it has been raining a lot, so the far back is flooded as usual) of the shed window.
The rose bud from the other day is still hanging on. The rose leaves are now gorgeous!
Baby Cat and Benny on Christmas morning.
What fun seed envelopes. Now that winter is officially with us, of course the stores are gearing up for spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the note about the seeds being available. And thanks for the great tips!
