Sunday Stamps - December 22, 2024
Christmas is the theme this week for Sunday Stamps.
Greece 2019
Iceland 1988
No, I don't see the Christmas in a fisherman either (it was hard enough to figure out it was a fisherman until seeing it enlarged). The other in the series is a ship. Maybe it's the star?

These are not postage stamps, but Christmas Seal stamps. When I was little these were sent to everyone hoping for a return donation. My mother stuck them to the back of Christmas card envelopes. I don't know if my parents donated, since I was just a little girl. Maybe, as my paternal aunt had had TB growing up and they might have wanted to help the efforts to wipe it out. I remember hearing stories of how she slept on the covered sun porch.

Next week? A hard one! Really! "A" favorite! Singular? Like I said, "hard." Maybe I can hedge that singular a little. Like a favorite stamp with a dog. A favorite stamp with a weird image. A favorite stamp with a memory. Not a stamp with a memory, I mean a stamp that provides a memory!
I remember Christmas seals! A long time ago now.
ReplyDeleteThey still have them, but don't just sent them out to everyone like they used to.
DeleteThe Greek Christmas llama is my favorite ;)
ReplyDeleteMine too, it's adorable!
Deletethey are all gorgeous!!!! Especially the last one listed.
ReplyDeleteI usually like the older ones, but the llama is so cute!
DeleteI remember those seals and sticking them on the back of all those Christmas cards.
ReplyDeleteThe Greek one is so sweet - what a balancing job!
I like it too. They certainly picked non-traditional animals. Llama, flamingo, unicorn, and sloth.
DeleteChristmas seals are very collectable, they are always so cheery. The Scandinavian countries still do them and each year I am almost, but not quite, tempted to buy a sheet.
ReplyDeleteThe US does too, you can get them with a donation on the American Lung Association website.
DeleteThe Icelandic stamp - I see it! The fisherman is in the center of the star. But I never would have known without your hint. The Greek stamp was my favorite. I think our country could have done better with the poinsettia stamp. To me, it looked like something had eaten it.
ReplyDeleteThe Greek stamp is one of my favorites! Maybe they looked like that in the '60s. The native ones, wild I guess, are sparse.
DeleteI understand your anguish. A favorite? Yikes, how can one narrow it down?
ReplyDeleteI like the first one the best.
Me too! It's my "favorite holiday stamp." I will be going with four different favorites!
Delete...a nice collection.
ReplyDeleteI like the vintage ones. I guess it's the star, on the fisherman stamp. It's a strange choice for Christmas, but maybe the idea is not to forget those who work during Christmas, I don't know.
