Tuesday Treasures - December 3, 2024

One of my cats, Benny, had to go to the ER a few nights ago.  He's home and getting around better, however he was so scared he peed in his carrier and I had to throw out the blanket that he used in his "nest."  Well, I guess I didn't NEED to, but I didn't want to wash a soggy blanket the vet gave us back in a plastic bag!  I mention this because I went to the Goodwill Bins to find another blanket.  (Benny's "nest" is a fuzzy dog bed that used to on top of the dryer, but he isn't supposed to jump so it's on the floor.  It was thrifted from the Bins.  The thrown out blanket was a curb freebie.  The carrier was either a curb freebie or from the Bins.)

So, everything today is from yesterday's Bin's trip.  I did find a blanket, and it's a pet blanket!  It's usually under him, but I just took it out of the dryer and he was already in his nest.

Also eight reading books and a dog toy that is now gutted.  It was a jack-o-lantern and it not only squeaked, it crinkled.

This flour sifter itself is from the 1950s.  I don't know when Phyllis Faszer (it's signed) painted it and added the rooster.  I believe she's a woman who lived in a town just north of here, who died in 2021.  A woman by that name painted, taught painting classes, and owned craft supply shops, so it fits.  The sifter was made in the "U. S. of A."  The "of" was used in the mid century and emphasized the pride in American manufacturing.

I picked up this little porcelain cat figurine (and forgot to get breakable price for it).  It's German, and is the sort known as "Love Cats." They were made in the 1950s - 1970s.  It's ear isn't chipped, it's the glaze off.

The style of this door harp is Swedish, but this one was made in the 1970s in Taiwan for Interpur.  I had to untangle the ball  strings!  On the back it's written that you turn the pegs to change the sound of each string to fit your desires.  It also states it's a Swedish Door Harp "for good fortune to those dwelling within."  Well, it's Taiwanese and I don't know about any legend.

While I use a laptop, I do not use the touch scroll pad!  I use a mouse, and my mouse pad was getting grubby and worn.  I was happy to find a brand new in the package mousepad.  It came with a matching coaster, and was probably a souvenir, as it's views of Australia.  Or, someone likes Australia, but not so much they used it.

Lastly, and it really should be included in the Christmas thrift posts, is this new (it still smells like cinnamon) bag of scented pinecones, a few glittery, and a wire silver star.

That actually was all I got!  Come back next Tuesday for the first of two Christmas thrift posts.

    1. I thought it was plastic at first, it's a strange finish on the porcelain. Maybe why it has that special name, although I wonder if they only used it for cats? I don't think it's '70s, more a '60s look to me.

  2. Poor Benny, my cats hate visiting the vet as well - it really stresses them out. I'm glad he's feeling better with his new "nest". I like the little red porcelain kitty!

    1. Benny is a indoor only cat, and has only been in a carrier one time since he was a kitten, during a fire evacuation in 2020 (what a year that was), so he was really stressed. Then the vet let him out of it loose in a room to watch him walk. I wasn't with him, so I can only image his fear. Poor boy...

  3. You do get some really good finds. Nesting sounds very comforting.

  4. Or... someone brought back the Australia mouse pad for a friend, and the friend never used it. Sorry about Benny, but it sounds like he's on the mend.

  5. Awww, I'm glad Benny is getting around better. What an experience for you and him both. He looks so cute in his new blanket. I would have picked up that chicken sifter even though I'm starting to declutter (and not making much progress). As usual, you know how to find the good stuff.
