Merry Christmas Eve!

Before the main post, here are three more nativity figure animals I got at Goodwill yesterday!  The donkey (big fella at 8" long) is EUR-O-CON © MOLD from the '70s.  The ram and the cow are old Japan.  I'm glad to find the big donkey, now my big sheep isn't the odd one out.

You may remember my commenting on the evil look the animals in a few of my crèches. Here and here.  Well, these have the same look in their eyes!

Now, on to the planned post.

What a day I had recently at St. Vincent de Paul for cheap artwork!

I'd gone for more Christmas light strings, which I did find.  I appreciate that they leave the plug ends sticking out of the sealed zipper bags so customers can test them.

Just seeing the frame told me to expect something good!

A European canal scene.  No signature or publisher information.  It could be from a painting by Robert Van Der Vinck, although I don't see the similarity in style, just the location, Belgium.  More likely "after" him.  It and the frame likely date from the '30s.  It's really very pretty.  Another one of those needing a mat to protect it, which means it shouldn't be put back in the original frame.

Remember the Borghese mirror I thrifted in November?  This time I found two Borghese framed antique lithographs!   The prints are from The Game Birds and Wild Fowl of the British Islands, published in 1900.  The prints do have foxing (age related deterioration) and the frames have tarnish spots.  The frames date to the 1930s.

I have a portrait wall in the living room.  Much of it is bad art from thrift stores!  You know, like these...  and this... and Lincoln, aka Anthony Newley!  Now I can add this Cowboy/Man in a Hat to the wall!  I wonder if it's of someone in particular?

  1. You should give a class in thrift. One thing I'll disagree with you on was the eyes on the three creche animals. I went to the first link with the evil eyed animals. Those look evil. These? Maybe more contemplative, especially the ram.
