The basket has an interesting handle, and a loop on the handle I'm thinking is for hanging on a peg? I've never heard of these but investigated briefly.
Until the age of the Internet, my family thought it was some sort of rice steaming basket! My grandmother brought it, and a lot of stuff, back from China before I was born. Back when China was open to visitors, before it closed to visitors, and then reopened to visitors. My mother keep sewing notions in it.
