Sunday Stamps: The Sun and Sunny Days

Sunday Stamps brings up The Sun and Sunny Days this week.

1973 Grenada stamp in honor of the 100th anniversary of the World Meteorological Organization. It features Helios, Greek god of the sun, on his daily trip through the sky.  His sister, Eos, used her fingers to paint dawn in the sky, then move a curtain of mist aside to allow Helios to come through.  His chariot was pulled by four horses, Aethon, Pyrois, Eous, and Phlegon.  When his daily journey was over he hid in a cup of gold which fell to earth, his sister picking up the night duties.

1940 Land of the Rising Sun, Japan.

2017 U.S. Forever stamp, Total Solar Eclipse.  The image is from a photo of a total solar eclipse in March, 2006 in Libya.

With the heat of your finger the moon appears.  Not my finger though,  apparently it wasn't warm enough.

Next week, Trees and/or Leaves.

  6. The first stamp is just perfect for the theme, and very beautiful. I didn't know the origin of the picture on the eclipse stamp, thanks.
